Driver distraction and drowsiness remain significant contributors to death serious injury on our roads are long standing issues in road safety strategies around the world. With developments automotive technology, including driver monitoring, there now more options available for manufactures mitigate risks associated with state. Such Occupant Status Monitoring (OSM) being incorporated into European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) Safety Assist protocols. The requirements OSM technologies discussed along two dimensions: detection difficulty behavioral complexity. More capable solutions will be able provide higher levels of system availability, proportion time a could protection driver, capture greater complex real-word behavior. testing approach initially propose using both dossier evidence provided by Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) alongside selected use track testing. systems not rely only warning but also include intervention when is attentive. roadmap future protocol development consider range known emerging driving while intoxicated alcohol or drugs, cognitive distraction, engagement supervision take-over performance assisted automated features.
